    The Six Pilates Principles

Centring, Control, Flow, Breath, Precision, and Concentration:

Pilates strengthens the muscles that support the spine (the neck, shoulders, abdominals, hips and thighs) to bring balance into the body. Most body aches and pains are due to muscular imbalance. Pilates helps to realign the spine in order to decrease tension, increase flexibility, and strengthen the body from the inside out.

Pilates can transform the way your body looks, feels and performs. Pilates is all about elongating your body, thus improving posture and efficiency of movement. It builds strength without excess bulk, creating a balance in your body. Pilates exercises are low impact and are performed on a mat or using small equipment (spikey balls, foam roller, magic circle, resistance band etc). If performed correctly, you will see improvements in your flexibility, agility, muscle tone, core stability and posture. Pilates is suitable for men and women of all ages and ability levels.

Physio Pilates is taught by our Chartered Physiotherapist. It is therefore appropriate for a gradual return to exercise following an injury, episode of low back pain or period of inactivity, as well as being an ideal form of exercise both pre and post-natally. Where necessary, our Physiotherapists are able to adapt the class structure for individuals with a history of pain or pathology. Physio Pilates is also ideal for the athletic population as a low impact cross-training option and to help prevent injuries.

Our focus is on precise, controlled movements with the emphasis on quality and form rather than the number of repetitions. Regular sessions will develop your concentration and focus, thereby enabling you to get the full mind-body benefits that Pilates can provide.
